WWE Royal Rumble Breaks Record for Biggest Non-WrestleMania Gate in the U.S.

The WWE Royal Rumble 2023 has achieved a historic milestone, setting a new record for the highest live gate of any U.S.-based wrestling event that isn’t a WrestleMania.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the event generated over $7 million in live gate revenue, surpassing all non-Mania events in the U.S. and even exceeding the revenue from most WrestleManias.

WWE had initially hoped to exceed $8 million, which would have made the Royal Rumble the top non-WrestleMania live gate in wrestling history, surpassing Clash at the Castle.

Last November, it was reported that the Royal Rumble had already set a record for the highest live gate among all Royal Rumble events.

The company has begun 2024 on a strong note, with WWE confirming to Pwinsider that the Royal Rumble 2023 has established the largest gate ever for the event. WWE’s statement highlighted that the event surpassed the $5 million mark, breaking the previous record set in 2017 when the Royal Rumble was held at San Antonio’s AlamoDome.

This achievement continues the trend from 2022, during which WWE set gate records for numerous events, including WrestleMania, Extreme Rules, and Crown Jewel.

The Observer also notes that WWE is likely to announce an attendance figure exceeding 50,000, as that number has already been used in promotional material.
