Trade of Aaron Rodgers to the Jets Might Be Closer Than Anticipated, Says NFL Insider

The Aaron Rodgers trade negotiation has been ongoing for almost a month with no clear resolution. Yet, there may be a breakthrough soon, according to an NFL insider. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated noted on Thursday that the Green Bay Packers might expedite the trade of their star quarterback to the New York Jets sooner than expected.

The finalization of Aaron Rodgers’ trade could happen this week (Green Bay Packers)

Breer explained:

The situation between the Packers and Jets might not be as problematic as some believe. The positive history between GMs Joe Douglas and Brian Gutekunst, who have worked together as young scouts, and the close friendship between head coaches Robert Saleh and Matt LaFleur, suggest that any remaining issues with Rodgers and the Packers are likely manageable due to these established relationships.

Additionally, negotiations have made headway. Both teams have strong incentives to finalize the deal, which could result in the Packers easing their demands. Previously, it was thought that Green Bay would insist on the Jets’ first-round pick from the 2023 draft. However, sources such as Breer and Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk indicate that Green Bay might reconsider this requirement.

Breer anticipates that the trade could involve either the 42nd or 43rd pick along with potential conditional picks. He suggests that the deal might be completed within the week and will certainly be settled before the draft. Therefore, Jets fans should remain hopeful as a resolution could be imminent, bringing Rodgers to New York.
