Rey Mysterio Confirmed as First 2023 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee

Rey Mysterio has been revealed as the first inductee for the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame class. The announcement took many by surprise, as Mysterio is an active competitor who hasn’t hinted at retirement or slowing down in his career.

While rumors had suggested that the Great Muta might be the initial inductee, fans were both thrilled and astonished when a video package for Rey aired, confirming his induction.

Mysterio Is Often Considered the Greatest Luchador Ever (WWE)

Despite the unexpected timing, there’s no denying that Mysterio’s illustrious career merits Hall of Fame recognition. He wasn’t a top candidate for this year’s induction simply because he’s still actively competing. Typically, WWE inducts retired wrestlers or those nearing the end of their careers, making this announcement a rare exception.

Rey Mysterio debuted in WWE in 2002 and quickly became one of the company’s most beloved wrestlers. He has won numerous titles, including the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and United States Championship. He has also held the Tag Team Championship multiple times, partnering with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Batista, and Edge.

Famed for his high-flying style and signature moves, especially the popular 619 finisher, Mysterio is arguably the most renowned luchador of all time. His intricate masks are a hallmark of his character. Widely considered one of the greatest high-flyers in wrestling history, he has also mentored many who followed in his footsteps.
