Rey Mysterio (WWE)
Former WCW and IMPACT star Konnan is set to induct Rey Mysterio into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. WWE revealed during Friday night’s live SmackDown in Pittsburgh that Mysterio will be the first inductee this year.
The report highlights that Konnan, currently signed with MLW, has known Mysterio since he was 11 years old. Mysterio, now 48, debuted in Mexico on April 30, 1989, at the age of 14, having been trained by his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr.
He entered the U.S. wrestling scene with ECW in 1995, before moving to WCW in 1996, where he stayed until WWE acquired the company in March 2001. Mysterio then waited out his AOL/Time Warner contract before joining WWE in 2002.
During his WWE career, Mysterio has held the World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WWE Championship once, and both the Intercontinental and United States Championships twice. In WCW, he won the Cruiserweight Championship three times and co-held the WCW Tag Team Championships with Konnan. Additionally, he secured the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles with Billy Kidman.
The 2023 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled to take place live at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Friday, March 31, following the WrestleMania 39 go-home show of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Both WWE SmackDown and the Hall of Fame ceremony will air live from the same venue.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be broadcast live on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network internationally.
