Dustin Rhodes, a prominent AEW wrestler, shared the sad news of his mother Sandra Runnels’ passing on social media yesterday. Along with his announcement, Rhodes posted a poignant image of himself holding his mother’s hand. This update follows his earlier revelation on December 27, 2022, that his mother was in the final stages of a serious illness.
In his Twitter post, Rhodes expressed his sorrow: “It is with great sadness that I announce the loss of my Momma today. She was a remarkably strong and loving mother who remained resilient until the end. She shaped me into the person I am, and while I am deeply saddened, I find comfort knowing she is no longer in pain. Rest in Heaven.”
Rhodes further elaborated on Instagram, explaining that his mother had endured serious pain over the past month, a challenging period for him and his sisters, Kristin and Mandy. He extended his gratitude to everyone who sent prayers and requested continued support for his family during this difficult time.
The wrestling community has since rallied around Rhodes, with many offering their condolences. AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill posted, “I’m so sorry Dustin. I’m praying for you and your family.” WWE NXT star Cora Jade commented, “So sorry for your loss,” and WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry shared, “Brother, I’m so sorry! I grieve with you. I’m praying for you.”
