In episode 12 of Marvel Studios’ Assembled, titled ‘The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder,” in the first few seconds, we see Chris Hemsworth’s 2009 audition clip for Thor. And it was incredible. The directors talk about how they first had to find a fitted actor for the franchise then they will do something about his physique. But luckily, they found acting, humor, physique, everything best suited to play Thor in Chris.
Chris told us about how he has transitioned throughout the movies from the first movie of Thor to Avengers: Endgame. In the later movies, the character adapted more to his real-life personality. Upon interviewing other crew members, they talked about how Taika Waititi was managing both directing and acting. Chris told us how he and Taika were combining their expertise in Thor: Love and Thunder. Natalie told how Taika could merge Dark and Humor so well.
Taika shares how to use very advanced technology in shooting. Like a 360-degree LED panel that would help in capturing very real landscapes and also help actors in their performance, so they know where they will be in the movie.
Then the director and other cast shared about Natalie being the Mighty Thor. After being disconnected from the marvel movies for so long, they told Natalie was excited and always arrived early for work. Natalie told herself how she previously only had to do little to no training for action scenes, but in Thor Love and Thunder, she had to get trained. The crew was impressed when Natalie showed up after a few months and built better.
Tessa and Natalie shared how even though they haven’t shared the screen in any action scenes in Love and Thunder, they just worked well. They shared how CGI has become better through the franchise. The crew laughed so hard when they saw Russel in a tennis skirt.
The costume designer told that they had to use more than 20 different costumes just for Thor. They had to rely a bit on the comics. The director and cast told how for the new film when Chris arrived, and they were surprised by seeing his physique, which was from another world. Chris told how he had to manipulate his body as per different movies, and at first, it was difficult, but as time passed, it started to take root in his muscle memory.
At last, the crew told us about how brilliant was Christian Bale’s performance in the movie and how he was able to portray Gorr just like in the movies. Chris being humble, shared that his role was much easier as compared to Thor’s. He told me how good of a guy Thor is.
