Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is an anime series released in October 2022. Kobayashi and Ryo Ando take the initiative in directing the series, with Ichiro Okouchi sharing his part in writing. The show premiered on Tokyo Broadcasting System and Mainichi Broadcasting System. The Witch from Mercury is a sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The Mecha anime series shows the consequences and threats of quick technological advancement and the combination of corruption and revenge.
For reference, the story starts in the year Ad Stella 110 with the creation of GUND, advanced man-operating mechas that were created by the Vanadis Institute. The purpose of creation was to be able to send humanity to the stars. But later, the company was acquired by Ochs Earth and used the GUND format to build Mobile suits. After knowing the illegal practices conducted by Ochs Earth, Mobile Suit Development Council Front issued a ban on GUND-based technology.
So they initiated a strike on Folkvangr, the research facility for creating GUND. As a result of the strike, only two people survived. Ericht Samaya is voiced by Kana Ichinose, and she is a 17-year-old who studies at Asticassia School of Technology. With Miorine Rembran, who is voiced by Lynn. Just like Ericht, she is a second-year student in the School.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Episode 2 Recap
After winning the duel against Guel, the School is raided by The Front Management Company. The reason was to take Suletta Mercury and her Mecha into custody because the Mecha was using the GUNDAM format. A meeting was conducted in the headquarters where the management had to decide what to do with Suletta and her Mecha.
The management came to know that the Mecha was registered under the company Shin Sei. So to get to confirm their suspicion, the president ordered to summon of the company’s representative.
Then we see at Lynn’s home three companions of Guel. And told Lynn that Suletta would be expelled and her mobile suit would be turned into scraps after the inquiry with the Shin Sei representative. After this, Lynn’s got upset and walked away from there. Then the scene shifts to the cafeteria where 3 Earthians are having lunch, and in the middle of their lunch, 2 Spacians approach and order them to leave their seats. Because in the School, Spacians ranked higher than Earthians, they had to follow their order.
Lynn receives a message from her father regarding her marriage. She is not happy because even after defeating Guel in the duel, she is supposed to marry Mercury. But to her surprise, her father had another plan. This scene very much confirms that her father doesn’t think much of her daughter. For him, only status counts, even if it’s her daughter; this is why he is marrying her daughter into a high-rank family.
MobilrLynn is approached by a woman who promises to give her a safe escape to earth where she doesn’t have to marry Guel. Because she wants to escape from her father’s control, she accepts the offer and gets into the spaceship to escape.
In the meeting, we see Shin Sei’s representative, Lady Prospera, attending the meeting. She is asked by the authorities about how the technology used in the Mecha was used by Suletta Mercury in the battle against Guel. In reply, she assured the president that the Mecha had used new technology. But the president didn’t agree to the reply and ordered to expel Suletta and destroy the Mecha. But suddenly, Lynn barged through the door and confronted her father. She told him to arrange a duel with her and Mercury. To which he agreed.
At the end of the episode, we see Lynn meeting Suletta in her prison and telling her about the duel.
