RuPaul’s Drag Race has become quite a phenomenon in the entertainment industry. From a niche genre to becoming a worldwide TV sensation, drag queens have taken the world by storm via this TV series. Now a staple in the UK, the series already has four seasons to its name, with the latest addition released on 22nd September 2022 on BBC Three.
The entirety of the show is a delicious feast of the latest fashion trends, aesthetic make-up looks, and of course, the avant-garde drag queens that bring all the charisma, glamour, and mystique to the table. This season is headed by our usual assortment of judges, i.e., RuPaul Charles, Michael Visage, Graham Norton, and Alan Carr.
Every season has been better than the last, and this one is no different. RuPaul’s Drag Race believes in leading the industry and making it more gender inclusive and sensitive. With this spirit, Dakota Schiffer, the first openly transgender contestant, was added to the panel of contestants. Already becoming a critically acclaimed show in a very short span of time, Rupaul’s Drag Race didn’t come to play but to lead.

The first Episode aired on 22nd September 2022, with Dame Joanna Lumley as the Guest Judge and Graham Norton as the alternating Judge. The show kicks off with a photo shoot mini challenge, with the contestants creating their own looks, taking inspiration from the Spice Girls’ Olympic Performance. Black Peppa aced the photo shoot and the look, easily taking the win home.

The next challenge was to walk the runway with two concepts in store. The first one was to pay homage to the 100th anniversary of BBC: BBC Keeping it 100, and the second look directed the contestants towards showing off their personality, providing them the creative freedom to pick and choose. Black Peppa again impressed the judges with their absolute perfectionism and charisma and won the runway challenge.
However, not everyone was in luck, as Just May and Dakota Schiffer received negative reviews. They faced off in a lip sync challenge, singing ‘Let Them Know’ by Mabel. Dakota Schiffer aced the challenge, which led to Just May’s elimination from the show.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 4: Episode 2 Recap:

The Episode starts with a team challenge, where the contestants were to perform at the Yass-Tonberry festival with their own rendition of ‘Come Alive. The team captains are decided based on the performances delivered in the previous Episode’s challenges. Hence, Black Peppa and Dakota Schiffer are chosen to lead their teams.
Black Peppa’s team consists of Baby, Sminty Drop, Jonbers Blonde, and Starlet, with the team name ‘The Triple Threat.’ Dakota Schiffer’s team, ‘Queens of the Bone Age,’ consists of Dany Beard, Pixie Polite, Le Fil, Cheddar Gorgeous, and Copper Top. The theme for the runway is ‘Neon Lights.

The Guest Judge makes everyone drop their jaws as her announcement comes as a surprise. FKA Twigs stuns the queens as the guest judge. With her on the judging panel, the excitement and competitive spirit burst through the roof. Cathy Dennis, the iconic pop star, even conducts a master class on songwriting to help the queens in their journey.
While being the last Episode’s ace, Black Peppa’s team ‘The Triple Threat’ loses this challenge, while Dakota Schiffer’s ‘Queens of the Bone Age’ come out at the top as winners. The lip-sync challenge begins to pick who gets eliminated. Jonbers Blonde and Starlet give their all in the battle, singing ‘About You Now by Sugababes, but unfortunately, it isn’t enough to keep Starlet in the competition. They did a bitter-sweet farewell and left the show towards the end of Episode 2.
