After the rejection of his petition from the National Company Law Tribunal in 2019, the National Company Appellate Tribunal overturned the decision. Two years later Supreme Court upheld the dismissal.

According to various sources, Mistry owned an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons which he gained through his company, Cyrus Investments Pvt. Ltd. However, Mistry was deeply enrooted in Mumbai and had a strong bond with Tatas because of marriage ties.

Sadly, he was killed in a car accident at age 54 while traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai with three other people, two of them were injured, and Cyrus and his driver couldn’t survive.
